My Purpose
Hey yall!
I've recently been accepted to a team of 10 people going to Uganda this summer on a Christian Medical Mission through CURE International and I'm so stoked about the way God has worked through the details of this trip and made it possible for me to go on such an incredible journey. Most of you know that this is where my heart is. During a similar trip to the Dominican Republic this past summer, God really revealed to me that this is where I am meant to be. I've never in my life been so affected by something. The extremely impoverished lives and horrible health of these kids really spoke volumes into my life and revealed to me that my passion is to love them, serve them, pray for them and heal them. While the trip to the DR was only 8 days, it was 8 days that I will never forget and the beginning of a life-long journey to passionately and lovingly serve the people that society tends to marginalize. It was really a defining moment in my life and God has continued to confirm these desires of my heart and provide me with opportunities to further Him through my love for medicine and my intense desire to serve the less fortunate.
The trip to Uganda this summer is from July 26th - August 10th and I will be working in the CURE International hospital with 7 other girls from America. We will be providing comfort and spiritual support to kids born with birth defects and spend time encouraging and loving their families. Also, there are opportunities to further my medical knowledge by shadowing doctors in the hospital and possibilities to sit in on surgeries. During the last 5 days of our trip, we will be hosting a mobile clinic in a small village to help treat people who cannot commute to a hospital to get treatment. Overall, I expect that this trip will allow me a hands-on experience to do what I want to do for the rest of my life and I will be involved in providing physical and spiritual healing to a portion of humanity that struggles to even find clean drinking water, food, clothes and acceptance.
With that said, the cost of the trip is minimal when put into perspective with the lives that will be affected by my time spent in Uganda, but given the current state of the economy and the fact that I am merely a college student, the cost is too much for me to handle on my own. The entire cost of the trip (including airfare) is $3500. I've learned that through the help of good samaritans that are eager to lend a helping hand, the burden of the cost of following my dreams is lightened. I ask that you will consider supporting me through your finances or through your prayers. As I embark on this journey, I would like nothing more than to have your support and for you to be a part of this adventure.
Thanks so much for your involvement in my life and I pray that those I reach in Uganda will be as blessed as I have been with the beautiful love of friends and family.
Love yall,
Katherine Lean
